I am a scientist by day and a photographer by night. Follow my journey as I juggle pipettes and lenses in this crazy thing I call life.
Here you will find my most recent work and, if you're lucky, my personal ramblings about Cooper, my love of blueberry muffins, and videos of me dancing. Please contain your excitement. :)
It’s time for another installment of Macro Monday!! This time focusing on the dynamic rose.
The rose is given in ways to say I love you, I’m sorry, and just thinking of you. It’s classic as a single stem and timeless as a bouquet. Simply beautiful. Even the thorns. : )
Lucky for me mom has a variety of roses around the yard, and all are in bloom thanks to the abundance of rain in combination with the occasional appearance of Mr. Sun. Drink in their beauty…
Hands down my favorite!
Love the layers…
So bright and cheery…
The beginning and the end…And my favorite Rosie Posie…
Why not surprise someone with roses just because?? Even a single rose would surely brighten someones days!
Veronika - Never knew until today that thorns could like that good, all the pictures are wall hanging quality, great job, Nicole. Oh, Rosie is waiting for her call from Hollywood.April 19, 2010 - 7:32 AM
I know what you are thinking...It’s not Monday!…and you are correct. If it was Monday again I might cry. : ) I had these pictures and wanted to share, so Macro Monday it is!!
We headed out to Anza-Borrego last weekend to admire the wild flowers. We ended up getting out there a little too late to take the hikes out to see the vast array, but made the best of our time there. My best advice is to head out early and bring Dramamine. I’m a wuss and can’t handle windy roads, so that part was NOT fun. The dessert is especially beautiful this time of year (bearable temperatures is a plus!) and worth the trip. Here are a few of my favorite shots…
I love the pollen on the back…
Note to self: Kneeling next to a cactus to steady your camera is a bad idea. Ouch!
Just hanging out…
Ok, I really don’t like insects, but I appreciate how hard these ants work. Moving more than your body weight is tough!
It’s interesting how independent the red ants are..
Sean - I admire these, Nicole. I admire how clean your macro photography is, it blows me away. Love looking at these.March 25, 2010 - 3:08 AM

christina g - wow! these are stunning! they are absolutely beautiful!!!March 29, 2010 - 5:03 PM
I was having one of those weeks. Where I felt like quitting. Not following my dream. Just plain giving up. Where everyday felt like receiving one of those letters that start with We regret to inform you. Maybe because it would be easier to just stop. But I can’t, I would regret it. For. Ev. Er.
I hope to look back on this and remember the struggles and feelings of impossibility. Remembering the special moments where those who love me have more faith in me than I do. The times where a bouquet of sunflowers brightened my day. For this I am thankful.
Peeps rolling in to WPPI, dance an extra dance for, take good notes, and most of all have fun!! Oh…annnnnnd blog, so I can live vicariously through you for a week! : )

Sylvia - I will put one of these on my wall ... when I have a wall that is ... one that is mine and not Columbia Law School's! :) I am proud of you and all that you gracefully balance. As my brother would say, keep punching. Remember that you have stuff in the basement ... just like Rocky. I love you and you must know that I only love super stars.March 9, 2010 - 5:33 PM
Nicoracle Photography - I love Macro days! These ones especially turned out so pretty. The creamy blur with the texture of the petals- I love it!March 11, 2010 - 8:17 PM
We have been getting more than our usual rain here in California. The plants are just as confused as the humans, but I love it. When I don’t have to commute of course. Everything is extra green and feels refreshed. I was able to sneak out in between showers, or what the rest of world calls sprinkles, to capture a few photos. I figured it was time for another installment of Macro Monday!
This time I am swtiching it up a bit and showing the images is a short clip. I recently discovered the video function on my D90. Well, I knew it was there, I just chose to ignore it. : ) In any case, it was a wonderful acknowledgment! I thank Matthew (Art’s cinematographer brother-in-law) for the inspiration. The clip features a few still images and footage I captured while shooting. I hope you enjoy it!
Everything was shot with the 60mm f/2.8. Lucky for you, Rosie makes a little cameo at the end! She was workin’ extra hard on the cuteness factor. Extra, extra hard, so I had to include it. : )
Molly Marie Williams - absolutely gorgeous! You are very talented NicoleFebruary 22, 2010 - 12:55 AM

Alright, here is another installment of Macro Monday! From my post last week you know that I recently purchased a townhouse. I clearly have been consumed with all things home-ish, so you will have to forgive me for the next month. The good news is that the boxes are dwindling down and furniture is in place. Still need to add a few pieces of art and decor to finish off the personalization, but it already feels like home. Home, sweet home.
The keys!
Welcome to our humble abode…
Vital for hanging pictures and other decor…
Vents on the door encasing the water heater…
Hose faucet…
A perk to a) living by the mountains, and b) leaving early for work…..GORGEOUS sunrises from the backyard. This is SOOC, I don’t lie!
Yeah, I left late and hit traffic to document a sunrise. I’m special. I hope Monday treats you as well as Friday!
ashleigh - oooh so beautiful nicole!! congrats on the house!!! :)January 11, 2010 - 1:50 PM

This past weekend I had an opportunity to do some personal photography. Something I use to do all the time, but it seems to have been lost in the shuffle. So! In order to push myself to take sometime to appreciate the little things in life, I am going to start a Macro Monday series! The staple of this series will be my 60mm Nikkor, which I absolutely adore…It creates some of the most delicious and creamy images. I almost considered selling it, because it was just sitting around! I’m so glad I didn’t, I would have missed it so.
On to some photos! I wish I inherited my mother’s green thumb, it seems flowers of all shapes, colors, and sizes are always in bloom. Roses never disappoint my heart…
This is not a welcome guest in the garden, but dandelions happen haha. You may be wondering how long one person can spend with a dandelion? The answer. You wouldn’t want to know! I just appreciate the textures and layers, okay?? Whimsical right?Christmas cactus is in bloom!Oh Daisy, how I love thee.
I have a few ideas for themes, and of course any suggestions you have are welcome! Happy December, 2010 is creepin’ up on us!
Regina White - Nicole I love these all! I want a macro lens now. Anytime you want to send me one of those photos to frame let me know. LOL! Lovin the Macro Monday!November 30, 2009 - 7:56 PM
Sean - The dandelion shot is drop dead gorgeous, Nicole. This post almost inspires me, but depressingly, my macro has been in my closet untouched for probably a year now. Great lens though too! Bokeh is so creamy!November 30, 2009 - 9:07 PM
Nicoracle Photography - How fun! What a great idea for a weekly post. I am in love with that dandelion! It looks like a big old cloud that I just want to jump into and make a home for myself. Wouldn't it be fun to live in a dandelion? If I ever write a children's book I want YOUR photos in it! I digress.November 30, 2009 - 9:52 PM
Christine - I love the daisy, it just reminds me of sunshine.December 1, 2009 - 7:44 AM

Sylvia - How about pictures of your mom's holiday cookies? I remember them being pretty (before I gobbled them up). Save some for me!December 5, 2009 - 9:18 PM
On this Thanksgiving I am thankful for the little things….
A hearty laugh with my parents. The type that makes your stomach hurt and eyes water. My dogs greeting me with sincere whimpers of excitement and jumps for joy. Even when I was gone for only an hour. Long dinners with old friends. Where you reminisce, smile ’til your cheeks hurt, and most importantly, humbly keep in check. Skype. For making miles of separation disappear. Photography. For helping me appreciate and see the beauty in all the things that comprise my life. Even the weeds.
Wishing you a warm Thanksgiving, filled with love, laughter, and a full belly.
Veronika - I'm thankful for the fact that you're in my life! The purple Irises are blooming next to the yellow Pansies, as well as the baskets of Christmas Cactus in the entrance way...but I have to admit that Dandelion is beautiful.
Be happy Nicole!November 26, 2009 - 12:01 PM
