I am a scientist by day and a photographer by night. Follow my journey as I juggle pipettes and lenses in this crazy thing I call life.
Here you will find my most recent work and, if you're lucky, my personal ramblings about Cooper, my love of blueberry muffins, and videos of me dancing. Please contain your excitement. :)
I’m starting to think I am partial to flowers that include yellow, red, and orange. All in one, please. : )
Calla lilies are curvy! Even the leaves….
It’s amazing how lighting can completely change the mood of a picture. Shot about 4 hours after the first photo…
Special thank you to all the men and women who serve(d) in our armed forces! That’s you Will! I am so grateful for your efforts and sacrifices. Thank you!

Samantha is back! She was among some my first clients last year that actually trusted me to take pictures haha. She is now preparing for her graduation in a few weeks and has the distinct honor of singing at graduation (I would probably pass out from fear). So you can imagine the last few crazy weeks of rehearsals, finals, prom, and commencement parties! Samantha is set to attend San Diego State University in the fall and is looking forward to the college experience. We headed to the eerily abandoned SDSU campus to capture a few more senior portraits. The light was delicious, Samantha was workin’ it, and the empty campus was ours. Here are a few of my favorite shots:
Samantha you are gorgeous!! This is my faaaaavorite….
Not to get all nostalgic or anything, but this was my lecture hall at SDSU….good times in Psych 101….
Hello beautiful sunlight!
I think having a sense of humor is key to surviving not only college, but LIFE. For real.
Samantha, it was truly a pleasure to hang out with you again! You are a beautiful person, inside and out. I can’t wait to see what you accomplish! My best advice is to pursue something you are passionate about, work hard, and the world is yours. I will definitely make sure you leave with leaves after out next session, I mean, it’s a tradition! Congrats and enjoy the remainder of your senior year!
Regina - I just love how you incorporated school. She'll always remember all the good and bad with those. Makes me think back to my high school days which like were about 20 years ago. Love these Nicole.May 27, 2010 - 5:40 AM

Art has been wanting to start a garden for quite some time. Together, our moms could probably supply enough veggies and herbs for an army, so we had a fair amount of guidance and inspiration. My green thumb needs some work, so this is definitely Art’s project for now haha.
My folks helped get our garden started for Art’s birthday. (notice I said ‘our’…spectating counts right??) Everything is going well so far….
It is cool to see all the changes over the past 2 weeks! Baby tomatoes just started peaking out….
Any gardening advice or vegetables you like to grow???
sean - you're great, nicole! what an awesome little project to start :) i used to love eating cherry tomatos straight off our plants when i was younger! good luck with this!May 25, 2010 - 1:30 AM
Veronika - I'm so happy to see the tomatoes fruit and zucchini blossoms in these pictures Nicole, and as always presented in a very artistic way with you photography skills. You my dear have a "light meter thumb" and your "green thumb" can be Art.May 25, 2010 - 8:44 AM

This past Saturday I had the distinct pleasure of joining the Villarreal family at the San Diego Great Strides, Cystic Fibrosis fundraiser walk at De Anza Cove. 8 year old DJ, my friend Adam’s son, has struggled with CF his entire life. To do the everyday things we take for granted, DJ takes 30+ pills and completes almost 2 hours of inhalation treatments/chest physiotherapy daily. Yes. Every. Single. Day. I am continually blown away by not only his strength and courage, but that of his family. I am in awe of their insurmountable faith, love, and hope.
Last year, DJ’s Fleet of Feet had 35 walkers. This year, there was ~130 walkers! I was blown away by all the love and support from family and friends, it was literally contagious. Here are my favorite shots from the day…
The group!
DJ’s beautiful mom Maggie is such a stud! She was recognized for raising over $7,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation…
The day started out a bit hazy, but in typical San Diego fashion, the sun was able to sneak out…
Team DJ! What, what!
I love that DJ’s baseball homies came out to support him…
Proud dad and sister!
The Villarreal family!
Here is a little video/slideshow summary of the day. It is a compilation of my perspective and many others (thanks to all of you that contributed!).
To find out more about DJ’s story and to donate on his behalf, visit Maggie’s page HERE! To find out more about CF visit www.CFF.org.
Adam and Maggie, thank you for letting us share in your day. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for DJ and CF research! My words don’t do justice to how amazing I think your family is, I feel so blessed to have your grace and hope in my life. Thank you!!

I have so many thoughts and words swirling in my head to describe how much I value your unconditional love, friendship, and never ending support. I am forever grateful for your selflessness and wisdom that have blessed my existence. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without you. I can’t say thank you enough.
Dad and I wanted to do something a little different this Mother’s Day to treat you! Sooooooooo, we are headed to our favorite city for the weekend…
Pack your bags because our flight leaves early Friday morning!! I’m really excited! It was so difficult to not tell you…now you know what my plans are this weekend. : )
I headed up to Temecula over the weekend to catch up with the Stine family and shoot a few senior pictures for Josh. They recently moved down from Bay area and Josh had the difficult task of starting his senior year at a new school. Now that the school year is starting to wind down, Josh is hoping to embark on the college journey with a few old pals! I’m sure good times will ensue. : )
Here are my favorites from the session!
Josh is a really talented musician! I think everyone keeps whispering in his ear to pursue music…I know I am!
I think it’s my favorite!
Love that Cali sunshine!
Little pieces of Josh…
Don’t hate me Josh…I love this shot!! Workin’ it!
13 rose bushes on their property means I get to leave with fresh cut roses! Thanks Rod!!
Josh, I wish you the best in all your future endeavors! Whatever you decide to do, follow it with all your heart. If you dabble in creative writing, please call your mom for inspiration. : ) I think we are due for a jam session soon!
Stine family, thanks for a fabulous dinner and the roses! I always enjoy spending time with you, I hope to see you guys again soon!
