Nicole Glenn Photography Blog bio picture

I am a scientist by day and a photographer by night. Follow my journey as I juggle pipettes and lenses in this crazy thing I call life.

Here you will find my most recent work and, if you're lucky, my personal ramblings about Cooper, my love of blueberry muffins, and videos of me dancing. Please contain your excitement. :)

This is the life I love.

Lately | Dinner Dates and Donkey Kong

Can you believe this month is almost over? What the heck!? I’m not ready for February yet. Maybe we can start with longer weekends and then work on slowing down time! I feel lucky to have some pretty rockin’ people in my life that help slow pace and make life a bit sweeter.

After a fantastic breakfast at Janet’s Cafe, my girls were finally able to come hang out at the new digs. For old time sake, we dusted off the Super Nintendo and dropped in Donkey Kong and Super Mario. Our ten year hiatus was not so kind to us. We sucked. Bad. It took us over an hour to beat Mine Cart Carnage in Donkey Kong. Oh, and the graphics were awesome. Talk about pixelation! At times we didn’t know what we were looking at. It was perfect, and I heart my Christine’s. : )

Wrapped up the weekend with a pizza dinner with other local photographers. It was really cool to ‘talk shop’ and hear stories from more seasoned professionals. Nicole, Laura, Gabrielle, and Molly, thanks for taking time to come out! I hope we can see each other more often! I wish you all the best. Hope 2010 is BIG.

I hope the week is treating you well!

FEATURED | SWOONOVERIT

So the past few days have been gloomy, wet, and cold. I know, us Californians really shouldn’t complain, but cut us some slack! We are not used to it. We melt at the sight of rain clouds and pretty much the city (at least San Diego) falls apart. Mmhmm, it’s true.

However, on this gloomy morning, there is a little ray of sunshine. Ok, a huge ray!!! I’m so excited that Amanda Young of SWOONOVERIT has featured Sylvia and David’s engagement session!! I seriously have the most amazing friends and clients. Sylvia loved the images so much, she submitted them! She is crazy. And I love her.

Head on over to the SWOONOVERIT blog and check it out. Also check out Amanda’s Calligraphy work, her hand drawn maps and addressed envelopes are exquisite!

Amanda and Sylvia, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

Until the sun comes out,

Nicole

**Sorry it was posted twice! My blog is gloomy today too. : )

I LIKE TO MOVE IT, MOVE IT

Ok, not really, but I know you liked that song back in 1996! Don’t lie! I was the proud owner of Jock Jams Vol. 2, unfortunately, that song did not add one drop of fun to moving. Not one. But, the dust is beginning to settle and I am back to the grind.

Last week I mentioned my new love for the Roku, but there is really a new favorite, favorite electronic in my life. I purchased a Flip camera in December and received it right before all the moving madness ensued. I now take it everywhere. Ev. Er. Y. Where.

I have found much enjoyment in cutting short films and I am trying to find a way to co-mingle this with my photography. We shall see what happens! If you are looking for a compact video camera, definitely check it out!

Here is a short summary of the past two weeks: First visit to the new place as the OWNER, piles of boxes, nervous dogs, spending ridiculous amounts of money to fill the new place, Passion Pit, a killer mountain sunrise, and joy. Pure joy. I look tore up, but whatev. This is life.

I can’t say this enough (you may be thinking oh yes you can!)….but I would not have accomplished any of this with out my rock star parents and Art. They supported me through every tear and heartache, and were there to celebrate with big smiles and hugs. I wouldn’t be where I am today with out you. Thank you from the bottom of my full heart. Ich Liebe dich.

Much love,

Nicole

Love it | Roku

This little box is amazing. UHHH. MAZ. ING. This may be old news to you, but it’s news to me! Art recently purchased this little beauty and I love it, AND we actually use it regularly. Well, as regularly as a few weeks can get! If you have a Netflix account you can stream anything from the Watch Instantly section. Anything. For example, the other night I jazz danced off the inches. It was ridiculously hilarious, but laughing and dancing IS a good work out. Try it, for real.

If jazz dancing is not your cup of tea, you can stream music via Pandora! Create a station by choosing your favorite artist and it will throw in similar music from other artists. It is a great way to find new music addictions. There are other features that we haven’t utilized yet, anything you recommend??

Click here to find out more about the Roku.

I’m hoping to have a little video summary of the past 2 weeks. No, it doesn’t include me jazz dancing off the inches. Not formally anyway.

Macro Monday | Home, Sweet Home

Alright, here is another installment of Macro Monday! From my post last week you know that I recently purchased a townhouse. I clearly have been consumed with all things home-ish, so you will have to forgive me for the next month. The good news is that the boxes are dwindling down and furniture is in place. Still need to add a few pieces of art and decor to finish off the personalization, but it already feels like home. Home, sweet home.

The keys!

Welcome to our humble abode…

Vital for hanging pictures and other decor…

Vents on the door encasing the water heater…

Hose faucet…

A perk to a) living by the mountains, and b) leaving early for work…..GORGEOUS sunrises from the backyard. This is SOOC, I don’t lie!

Yeah, I left late and hit traffic to document a sunrise. I’m special. I hope Monday treats you as well as Friday!

Warmly,

Nicole

David and Sylvia | Engagement

I was so excited when David emailed me asking if I could take engagement pictures for him and my good friend Sylvia. I was even more excited when we were all in town at the same time. Yes, staying longer than 48 hours has it’s perks David!

They met while studying at Cornell University and have been best friends for the past 6 (almost 7!) years. Their love is honest, quiet, and true. You can feel it in their presence. Hopefully these pictures convey just that.

I love these gnarly trees…

Love, love, love…Sylvia’s smile is as warm as the Cali sun. True story. My favorite…I seriously can’t believe the weather last weekend. California is blessed with the most beautiful ‘winter’ light.Ok, seriously? How do you guys get to be so good looking??!The SDC.

David and Sylvia, thank you for allowing me to document this moment in your lives. I am so honored to call you both friends. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for you. Did I convince anyone to move to California? Anyone? I heart you two!!

Warmly,

Nicole

Lately | Signatures, Keys, and Boxes

This past week has been a blur. After 9 months of looking, 30 days of financial questions, 3.2 trillion signatures, and a touch of grace, I, Nicole Glenn, am a homeowner. Whoa. Feels like a dream. I am truly in love with my new home and can’t wait to be completely unpacked and settled. I am insanely grateful for all the encouragement from my friends and family. My parents are amazing. I will never be able to fully communicate how appreciative I am for all their love and never ending support. I want to write more, but my head is spinning from exhaustion and cleaning chemicals.

I will close with a picture from the fireplace mantel. One of the few things in order…

I hope you all had a fabulous New Year’s celebration! I am so lame. I passed out at like 10:30…slightly embarrassing, but moving is tiring, ok?

Much Love,

Nicole

P.S. This post is brought to you by my new neighbor’s password free internet, thank you hehe.
